Puget Sound Premier League rebrands as Washington Premier League
CHARLESTON, SC - May 28, 2021 - The Puget Sound Premier League (PSPL) has announced an exciting rebrand along with several major league developments.
Now officially referred to as the Washington Premier League (WPL), the rebrand more accurately reflects the region the league has been serving for over a decade and its core mission to unite competitive soccer clubs under a Northwest vision of higher standards and open competition.
Beginning with just 12 teams in 2007, the Washington Premier League now serves more than 1,000 teams and is the only NPL member league in the Northwest region.
As part of this new vision, the league is announcing several other significant changes:
- A redesigned website reflecting the new name, improved website navigation, and ease of use.
- A partnership with GotSport and US Club Soccer to offer a one-stop club registration portal, saving admin staff significant time.
- The introduction of the Washington Super League beginning with the Fall 2021 season. The Super League is for top clubs committed to higher standards and will serve as the NPL division of the Washington Premier League.
- Reintroducing PDP and id2 player identification events for top young players in the Northwest for potential inclusion in US Club Soccer’s national training camps.
- Hosting a Northwest Surf Copa Cup Invitational for the first time in June 2022. Winners will receive an automatic bid to Surf Cup in San Diego, CA.
“We hope to create a stronger future for competitive clubs in the Northwest,” said Stanley Holmes, Washington Premier League Executive Director. “A future that honors higher standards and bigger commitment but still offers alternative pathways for smaller clubs to aspire to great things. We want to continue to be more accessible and more affordable than any other youth soccer leagues in the Northwest. Every club has to raise its standards and it will start with our Super League.”
The new Washington Super League will be a place for clubs from all backgrounds and affiliations to come together and create a new region-wide league with high standards and less travel. The Super League division of the WPL will be the pathway to US Club Soccer’s national postseason platform, the NPL Finals.
“We are excited to return to the Washington Premier League and join its new Super League division,” said Mike Thompson, Timbers Thorns North FC Technical Director. “With a regional travel format, high club standards, and great competition we believe that that Super League will be a great fit for our soccer community. We like the structure of the NPL and are excited to be part of it.”
